April hours: 8

Total hours: 20

This month, I continued volunteering with Miracle League. The first game this month we celebrated Easter, and they actually got Joe to dress up as the Easter Bunny! All of the kids loved it; they took pictures with him and got some candy after the game.  During one of the games this month, I was buddied up with one of the girls who loves to play duck duck goose, and we played with some other players and buddies during the game again. During another game, we were down a few buddies, and I actually was buddied with 2 players. The 2 players loved playing together and ran around the bases together, even when it wasn't their turn. It was so nice seeing them supporting each other.

I really enjoy volunteering with Miracle League as each player continuously shows up with excitement and energy that is just so contagious. I continue to find myself in awe of these children and their positivity toward life.

Participating in Miracle League always reminds me of the impact of building connections with these children. The most obvious, of course, is the emotional and physical effects on the children. They have the opportunity to build relationships with the other players and their buddies in a relaxed and fun environment as well as play sports and get some exercise that they may not otherwise have the ability to do. Furthermore, their parents have the benefit of being able to relax and see their children have fun. Although the games are not long, a short reprieve from daily stressors is vital for the parents. And lastly, the buddies, such as myself, can build meaningful relationships with these children, which leaves a lasting, positive impact on our lives.
